Giving Back

"Icing Smiles is a nonprofit organization that provides custom celebration cakes and other treats to families impacted by the critical illness of a child.  We understand that simple things, like a birthday cake, are luxuries to a family battling illness. Our goal is to create a custom birthday cake for the child, or their sibling, that provides a temporary escape from worry and creates a positive memory during a difficult time.

Please click the Icing Smiles graphic to show support  or for information on how to request a cake.

Memories have magical powers. Long after the cake is gone, the memories linger--memories of the kindness of a stranger, the art of design, the sweet smells of a special treat, of the smiles and laughs, of a normal childhood experience, so often stolen from these children. These memories are why we say, "It is so much more than a cake." --Icing Smiles

I was approached by Icing Smiles to donate my time and materials to make special cakes for kids and siblings who have major medical illnesses.  Being an "Icing Angel" is one of the great ways Artisan Cakes gives back to our community!

Meet Henry!  He is one cool dude!  He's brother has heart issues and that just stinks. It can be hard on a sibling when parents have their attention elsewhere . Henry's parents thought he would enjoy a neat cake for his birthday.  Henry is the youngest of nine kids in his family!  He was so excited to run his Hotwheel car down the track and through the cake!  You are awesome and so is your family!

My Inspiration and Personal Hero:

Noah - Jeune's Syndrome

This little guy is my hero!  Noah's attitude and love of life is a testiment to God's love and grace.  His smile and humor can light up a room, even a hospital room!  He has surprised his surgeons and blessed his family with his eagerness to live life. I have made special cakes for Noah since his first birthday.  Every year he literally challenges me with his ideas for his birthday cakes.  When he was younger, he didn't even like to eat cake! But, he always looked forward to something made special just for him. When Icing Smiles found me, we were the perfect match! Now I could share that joy with other awesome kids too!

Ok so we all know Noah is a huge U of M fan.  In this pic, he is all bundled up for the big game at The Big House. The birthday theme was U of M football this year....what is the longest running trophy item in college?  The Little Brown Jug of course!  The mini jug in the picture on the left is an actual Christmas ornament and the big jug is cake!  And this cake wouldn't be a special cake if it didn't do something crazy...right?  Well, unplug the top of the jug, insert a spout and pump yourself some root beer!  That's right, drinks with dessert! The list on the side of the jug is his family members birthdays.  Noah is pictured right, with his sister, a football player, and the actual jug!

Year 12 and now in middle school!

WHAT?!
